Welcome to Twin Forks Chorus! Our home is
the beautiful Red River Valley in Grand Forks, North Dakota/East
Grand Forks, Minnesota. We are dedicated to the preservation of the
American art form of barbershop music.
Our chorus was chartered with Sweet Adelines
International over 30 years ago and we have been singing in and
around the Greater Grand Forks area since then. We have even taken
our performance to Washington, DC and sang at the World War II
Memorial in 2004.
We are an active chorus of 35+ members with
members ranging in age from their 20s into their 80s with a variety
of talents and careers. Rehearsals are always open to guests and
interested singers. Membership is open year round in all voice
parts. From our dazzling costumes to our exciting choreography, you
are in for a visual and musical treat. Musical selections range from
traditional to contemporary and everything in-between.
We present energized performances featuring
season-appropriate selections such as our patriotic package; our
holiday package consisting of Yule time favorites for young and old
at local convalescent homes and other locations; we deliver Singing
Valentines; we perform with the Valley Chorsdmen each December to
benefit the local food cupboard; and our annual show is new each
fall with the script being written by the members. Some of our
events are paid performances while others are community service.
Unique to our chapter is the song "Dakota
Wind" which is an arrangement commissioned especially for Twin Forks
Chorus. It was written by North Dakota native Cleste Krenz. "Dakota
Wind" is a haunting melody expressing the feelings of someone
missing their lover and being comforted by the wind.
During the annual Region Six competition,
choruses and quartets from four states (there is currently no active
Montana chorus) and two provinces fill local hotels and restaurants
as we prepare to compete on stage which is held in a different city
each year. Anyone who enjoys the sound of a cappella music,
choreography, and the thrill of competition would enjoy this event.
Founded in 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sweet
Adelines International formed an organization of women singers
dedicated to advancing the musical harmony through education and
performance. There are nearly 30,000 members worldwide. Chapters are
divided into 25 geographic regions in North America and five
worldwide areas with Twin Forks Chorus falling into Region Six. Our
motto is "Harmonize the World."
